Internet Trolls Not Credible, PR Expert Maxim Behar Says

"How could you believe a lie said by an anonymous person?" PR Expert and Novinite publisher Maxim Behar has said during a TV discussion about Internet trolls.

Mr Behar, who is also the founder and CEO of leading Bulgarian PR company M3 Communications Group, Inc, has made the comment in public broadcaster BNT's breakfast show, days after most of the large Bulgarian political parties signed a declaration stating they give up the use of trolls to spread their ideas.

Nearly every party in Bulgaria's Parliament has regularly been accused of paying for comments to be posted in media outlets, forums, and social networks.

In Mr Behar's words, it is the worst thing for a politician to say things they won't deliver, and this is what happens when people hired by parties to write on the Internet are leading their employers' campaigns.

"I'd agree to enter a dispute with people who don't have a face or a name, but there must be a message. On Facebook, if the person is real, you could start an argument with them," he added.

But he also warned that, in a digital age when via the use of social media, such as Facebook or Twitter, young people might be much more aware of the world than their parents, it is hardly believable that someone should trust anonymous messages.

Alongside other experts familiar with the field, he agreed that political campaigns on the Internet will get more and more aggressive, though their success could be questionable.
