Maxim Behar: Politicians Struggle to Communicate with Society

In Bulgaria’s dynamic political climate, public reactions to politicians’ statements often reveal how a lack of clear communication becomes a serious issue. In his latest appearance on NOVA NEWS, Maxim Behar shared specific observations on this topic, addressing current examples from the political scene.

Political Communication Today

“The danger lies in the fact that politicians have started to speak the way they talk in their kitchens or in bars. That is who they really are, not the people we see in pre-arranged interviews.” – shared Maxim Behar.

He emphasized that in recent weeks, we have witnessed examples of politicians losing their composure, revealing their true nature. According to him, this is a concerning trend that shows a lack of awareness of the responsibility they carry.

Apologies – A Useful Tool or Mere Formality?

“Apologies can work, but the ones we heard were half-hearted. They were not clear, and they were not genuine. A real apology is saying: ‘Yes, I made a mistake, and it will not happen again.’” – commented Maxim.

He highlighted that both in business and politics, when a person makes a mistake, it is essential to take full responsibility and apologize sincerely, without excuses, to maintain public trust.

The Role of Social Media

“Social media are our friends, our companies, and the people who vote. Their voices must be heard, but politicians should not communicate solely through them.”

Maxim underlined that despite the tremendous influence of social networks, personal interaction and direct contact with people remain key to building trust in political leaders.

The Challenges Facing Bulgaria

“Bulgaria is going through an extremely challenging period – with the upcoming entry into the Eurozone, wars close to our borders, and conflicting messages from overseas impacting the economy.”

In this context, he believes that politicians need to be determined, deliver clear and precise messages, and communicate openly with citizens.

Reforming the Institutional Model

Maxim once again raised the need to abolish the institution of “caretaker governments,” stressing that regularly elected governments should carry out their responsibilities until the next elections without the country entering an endless cycle of interim administrations.

In a world filled with disinformation and polarization, political communication must be clear, responsible, and honest. The words and actions of politicians matter, and sincerity and direct contact with citizens are more important than ever.

“Politics is not about percentages and ratings. Politics is about doing your job if you want to, of course. If not, there are many opportunities for work and business in Bulgaria.” – concluded Maxim Behar.
